About The Artist

Latia Jackson, a.k.a Afro Picasso, is a Chicago based multidisciplinary artist focused on summarizing emotional self reflections, experiences, and nostalgia through storytelling by using her self taught skills along with her Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts and minor in Creative Writing. Pulling insight from creatives all over, she merges elements of conceptualism seamlessly into her artistic practice, resulting in a body of work that is as visually striking as it is thematically rich. Whether inspiration is taken from black nostalgia, media or from life itself, each work serves as a visual summary of lived experiences or ideas that circle around the main topic of emotional state, culture, and the identity of African Americans. Gestured figures, abstract colorful skin tones, exaggerated expressions, and intuitive colour pallets allow for dramatic messaging through conceptual contemporary art. With each piece, Latia grows closer to fully understanding herself as her works are a visual representation of her self discovery.
